Saturday Oct 1 (Afternoon): Justice for Migrant Workers in Canada and Dominicans of Haitian Ancestry at OWFF 2016

One World Arts partners with Inter Pares for a special presentation of the documentary Migrant Dreams and a panel discussion on justice for migrant workers, with director Min Sook Lee, Chris Ramsaroop (Justicia for Migrant Workers) and migrant workers, on October 1st at the Library and Archives of Canada (395 Wellington St.) in Ottawa.

The screening and discussion have been scheduled to coincide with the final stop of the Harvesting Freedom Caravan, which will be holding rallies and other awareness raising activities in Ottawa on October 2nd and 3rd.

Following the panel discussion, the One World Film Festival will present a special one-time-only screening of the Canadian documentary Citizens of Nowhere, which examines the plight of a quarter million Dominicans of Haitian descent who were rendered stateless by a change to the constitution of the Dominican Republic in 2013.

The dark side of Canada’s Temporary Foreign Workers Program is exposed this intimate character-driven portrait of resistance among migrant workers in Ontario. Lied to and threatened with deportation by agents and employers, a group of migrant agricultural workers exposes an ongoing exploitation of migrant labour that demands to be confronted.
